Our Story
Twenty-six years ago, two teenagers met in a classroom in Vietnam. Neither of them knew then that this meeting would lead them halfway across the world and eventually to a little restaurant on Glossop Road in Sheffield.
Kim grew up in the Mekong Delta, in the south of Vietnam, where food was never fancy but always made with love. The flavours of home, phở simmering on the stove, bánh mì fresh from the bakery, bún bowls piled high with herbs and cơm tấm served on a Sunday afternoon, are the flavours she has carried with her everywhere she has ever lived.
Cuong grew up with the same love of Vietnamese food. Cooking was never just something he did. It was something he felt. That passion led him to study Culinary Skills at college before spending over a decade working and managing professional kitchens across the UK, including at Wagamama and Mowgli. In 2021 he was recognised as a Wokstars Regional Finalist, a moment that confirmed what he had always believed: that Asian food, cooked with skill and authenticity, deserves to be celebrated.
Ten years ago, Kim came to the UK to pursue her dream of further education. She built a career as a lecturer in Sheffield, a city she quickly fell in love with. Cuong followed, drawn by both Kim and his passion for cooking.
Together, in the evenings and at weekends, they cooked. Vietnamese food the way their families had always made it. Friends who came for dinner always said the same thing: you should open a restaurant.
For a long time, it stayed a dream. Then one day, they decided to make it real.
Viet's Kitchen opened on 11 September 2026 at 401 Glossop Road, Sheffield, directly opposite the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. It is everything they had imagined: a place to share authentic Vietnamese street food with the people of Sheffield; a place where every dish tells a story; a place where strangers become friends over a bowl of phở.
